Research & Development Scientist. On behalf of our Client based in Ballina. Co Tipperary, we are currently sourcing a R&D Scientist to join their Team. Job Role and Responsibilities: Involvement in all aspects of the development of assays for the detection of microbes from food & beverages, raw materials and related products. Involvement in the design, execution and interpretation of experiments for validating, documenting and implementing new microbial assays based upon oxygen sensing. Design and execution of performance evaluation studies relevant to the application of these assays internally and in beta-testing sites. Documentation of all test results; analysis of technical data and generation of technical reports and advisories, as appropriate. In conjunction with the CSO / Principal Investigator to manage the development, optimisation, calibration and validation of microbial growth curve convergence. Manage and drive product improvement/design change projects, including the pursuit of appropriate industry recognised accreditation of the company assay with AOAC, IDF/ISO, and others considered by the Board from time to time to be value enhancing for the technology in the medium to longer term. Provide support and guidance to internal departments, with respect to product maintenance and support; failure investigation; problem resolution/ corrective action implementation, when required. Assist with management of routine Laboratory maintenance. Assist with stock control/maintenance in line with department budget plans. Adherence to Laboratory health and safety requirements and adherence to quality standards. Equipment calibration/maintenance. Procedural review and update as required. Supporting QA in the internal audit programme. Other duties that may become necessary as a result of system/process changes within or impacting R&D, as outlined by the CSO / Principal Investigator. Key skills: 3-5 years’ manufacturing experience. Demonstrate experience in the culture and identification of microorganisms. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Knowledge of microbiological media, preparation and use. Ability to work methodically and generate and follow SOPs. Organisation and preparation of short technical reports.
